NCG Theater Rebrand/Wayfinding Design
In spring of 2025, Luke Huller and I were assigned to work on a rebrand of NCG Movie Theater that incorporated a wayfinding system. After going to the theater to do some research, here are some problems with the current design we noticed:
1. Wayfinding of the theater needs to be improved. The only thing guiding moviegoers is the small number on their ticket and the number of the theater displayed above the door. There are no indicators that show what movie is playing in which theater.
2. The Xtreme theater design looks old and outdated.
3. The general theme of the current design is too simple and lacks the elements needed to grab and retain moviegoers’ attention. By creating a new theme that incorporates spotlights, bright colors, and new wayfinding mechanics (such as the introduction of corresponding colors and shapes to all components), we aim to make an exciting, accessible, and fun movie experience at NCG.
Our solution incorporated a system that allowed moviegoers to find which side of the building their movie is based on the color and shape displayed on their ticket, the wall, and in the front lobby.
